This institution Sri Akilandeswari Women’s College presently affiliated to Thiruvalluvar university, Vellore was started in the year 1995, by Swamy Abedhanandha Educational Trust.
The Tamil department was established in the year in 1995 as a language department. During that period there were only three departments namely Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Nutrition Food Science Management and Dietetics.
The Department was upgraded as a major department with B. A., Tamil Literature in the year 2003. Our department conducts many activities under “Baradhiyar Tamil Sangam” to enhance the students with learning and also motivates the students to participate in college and inter collegiate competitions.
At present the department functions with nine staff members handling language classes for ten departments. These staff members motivate the students to prepare for competitive examinations. Thirukural exams are conducted every first year UG students to develop their interest in Tamil language and literature.
